innovative fine art guitar paintings by Paul Chase

What people are saying about "graphicguitars"...

When you're a fanatic about the beauty and style of guitars, in all their various forms, you can't get enough of them. But what happens when an accomplished fine art painter is obsessed with guitars? Looking at the work of Paul Chase will answer that question...in a big way.

Chase has created works of art that convey the allure, power and attitude of the guitar, a modern symbol for musical rebellion. And just as all rebellions have many facets, so does Chase's art. Bold splashes of color and composition deliver a banquet of instruments that speak to the viewer of tenderness, sophistication and strutting arrogance. You can almost hear the paintings play.

Art is at it's best when it throws the artist's lust for his subject across the canvas, spilling emotion onto the viewer. For some artists it's the perfection of the naked human form that inspires, but for Chase it's the blaring power and iconic image of the guitar that fills his head and controls his brush. Check it out.

The Guitar as Art... Literally
Paul Chase Turns the Term 'Guitar Art' Inside Out
...Just when you think there is nothing new under the sun... well, something new breaks upon the horizon. In this case, it is artist Paul Chase's version of the guitar as art. He has taken the phrase literally, by sawing up and embedding guitars into the surface of his painted works as if they were a musical watermark upon the canvas.

Howie Doyle, Six String magazine

Wow. I just spent an hour on your site looking at your creations. What a splendid artist you are! I would love to own a coffee table book of your Artwork. Quite inspiring.

Thanks for the website. ~ Terry Adams

Here are some fantastic fine art paintings and sketches of guitars by Paul Chase. Just looking at the website melted my bifocals and set my eyebrows ablaze. Imagine what one of Paul's full size works would do for your rehearsal suite. Visit his stunning site and you'll understand what I mean.

Paul, I'm thankful today for the privilege of knowing and working with
people like you; who believe in excellence, creativity, integrity; who
try to live out their faith in an age when faith is vague and
undemanding; who value friends more than fans; whose art inspires; whose
legacy will live on after they're gone; who hope for a "Well Done!" (or
"Cool Work!", depending on your translation) when all is said and done.
I hope you'll be pleased to know that your name was lifted up in
thankful prayer today.

Paul,

Thanks for the prompt.  I found two prints/images and  Nice work! I just put them up in the show room to begin getting some comments from our employees and folks on tours.  Thanks for the great idea.  I’ll show your artwork to our Master Luthier.  Kim also taught art for many years and also has a Masters in Fine Art and Education.  You should come out for the 2005 Extraordinary Experience and spend some time with us.

I’m sure more ideas will pour out when we get the art some exposure.

Thanks again!   Best of luck with your ideas!

I agree that you have filled a void in the art world and that your work is a great ambassador to the subject matter to general art lovers.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for writing.  Your website and ministry are fantastic!  While I
do not know of any immediate spot for your paintings, I will keep my eyes
open, and let you know of anything I find.  Keep up the great work!

Hello,

After much searching for interesting guitar art, I found your work on the internet and am quite impressed.  Unfortunately my limited budget at this time will only allow me to purchase a print.  There are a couple that I am interested in so far.

A couple questions:  "neonhollowbody" #60 - what sizes of prints are available and the costs?

"flamedframedfender" #45 - is a print available for this?  Size and cost?

Much thanks.
Dan

Paul, love your work. I think a two page layout/article is a definite.

I really like what you are doing, extremely creative & you have massive $$$ potential!!

You hit the nail right on the head, there are many of us guitar maniacs running loose. I have searched the web over and over looking for decent guitar art-none to be found.

Paul, lovely paintings of the F-bass! We feel that we make very attractive instruments, but it's nice to have people confirm it.

I am putting a design on my acoustic guitar and i was searching the internet for inspiration, mainly looking for symbols etc to paint. I stumbled upon your page and browsed through it in awe for twenty minutes. I was originally planning to paint stupid smiley faces all over my guitar, and now I want to do something deeper :) Id like to thank you for stopping me from ruining my guitar :) and id like to tell you what amazing talent you have with your creative, beautiful and inspiring art.

Hi again Paul,

I clicked on the link I have to your site from our homepage to check out your great graphics again... fantastic.

Your guitar paintings are wonderful. They should be published as fine art prints or posters, for sure, so that the general public can have access to them.

Gary Grimshaw - PaperSong

Paul, I have surfed over and cruised the gallery. Very nice work...they would look great as magazine cover art!

The guitar art you have done looks outstanding! I do have a new cd coming out, but the art work is done, and the images will not be guitar oriented. I will keep your web site number and keep you in mind for future projects as well as pass on your info to anyone who might be interested.

I did visit your site, and that was really most enjoyable too. In these times, it's refreshing to see that so much beauty can be found in the simple vision of the guitar.....in all its various forms.  Mainly this is to congratulate you on your work and to wish you much success now and in the future.

I've been playin guitar for a long time and I've always thought the
guitar itself was a work of art. This is the best artwork on guitar that
I have ever seen! Thank you! I would love to put one of your images on my
website (www.ncblues.com), but only by permission.

Your paintings are superb.  We are not likely to get our poster line
going until late this year or perhaps even Spring of 2002.  When we start it,
we will definitely consider adding some of your artwork.    Thanks for the note....

Hi Paul,
First off, kudos on your work, I was totally blown away!!!  They paintings expressed what I think most guitarist feel, that their instruments seem to "come to life".  That's what I get out of your work.

I have a Blues band in Buffalo NY, called Eric Mowry & The Showdogs.  We are in the process of recording our debut.  We only plan to press a couple of hundred units to start.

The working title right now is Blues for Life.

I was wondering if I could get your permission to download one of your paintings for the cover.  There are a couple (including redshirtblues) that I think would fit perfectly with the concept of living blues.

I would obviously give full credit to you on the cd.

Thank you for your time, and keep up the exceptional work
Eric J. Mowry

Paul,

Thanks for the update, my friend. Your work is superb! I just checked my
links page and realized that I never did add your site. Apologies. It's there
now:

    http://www.visionmusic.com/hotlinks.html

VM is getting about 4000 unique visitors per day, so hopefully we can
generate some traffic your way. Perhaps also a newsletter feature at some
point. Til next time...

Best regards,

Paul, I still am holding onto your letter from Nov. 30th. I think that you have done some great work!!

   Larry Thomas - Guitar Center

Wow- nice website and nice work.  I'm done with my studio but there's no
wall space left (real guitars are hanging everywhere!) - BUT - I will
pass
your website onto other potential interested prospects.

All the best,

Paul,

Checked out your paintings and they are very beautiful.  I have to say I
am intrigued about the idea of having a painting done of one of my guitars.

I think your paintings, drawings and all other aspects of your work are
excellent.  I am preparing for my A level art exam and you are my artist

provided me with some amazing pictures for my work.

Paul,

Hi. Just spent some time in your gallery...wow. Lovely stuff. I still have
three rooms to go in West. I'm no expert on guitars, but I sure do love 'em,
and your illustrations suggest you do as well. There is a warmth that comes
through even when the colours are the cooler blues and greens.

Again, fantastic stuff.

In the meanwhile, I will forward your work to both of my brothers who

Excellent web-site!  The galleries include some of the most fascinating
guitar paintings I've seen in a very long time.  I also play guitar and
paint, and have had numerous opportunities to capture both hobbies at the
same time...My work pales in comparison, though!  This stuff is truly
amazing!  Thanks for showing the beauty of the guitar...

I stumbled on your website through the melbay website.  Beautiful art!  Is it possible for you to let us know when the prints/posters are available?  Thanks, from "can't affort the real thing"!

Hi Paul,

I've been searching for some decent, "inspiring" artwork for my bedroom for about a year now.  Nothing has truly caught my eye until now. THANK YOU for doing what you do!  Anyway, I'm very interested in finding out how much the photographic copies go for.  The works I'm most interested in are Good Vibration, LiquidLyric, Player, and ColorSoundCheck, probably 16x20.

Thanks so much!
Jean Holmes

"The art of Paul Chase, graphicguitars, who's work captures a guitar's mojo and reveals it on canvas...a one of a kind guitar, colored top to bottom, that sings without making a sound!"

Brice    Vue365 magazine

I have never seen guitar art...I am an artist/woodcarver and like to strum
the guitar as a hobby.  I have never seen such a guitar and saw the one you
posted on ebay and fell in love with its great look.  I have added your
website to my favorites list and will check back often.  Keep up what you
do...I think it is a great idea...and I hope to own or see one of your
pieces.

Thanks
Zachory

Hi Paul,

Your paintings are getting a great response so far from the artists we have working with us (and to everyone that we show them too now!). We are working on a a section that involves artists of other genre's (one is a novelist) and we would like include you in that too. Since we would have much of your artwork on the site, it could be a "meet the artist" interview and a picture.

Please let me know if you would like to participate in this. I think it would be very informative to the fans that we will be reaching.

Thanks!

Paul:

      Thanks for your e-mail.

Your paintings are a trip!  Are your works on display at the Wild About Music store in Austin, TX?  If not, they sure should be.  Also at a couple of galleries I've seen on Maui, one in Lahaina and the other at the Shops At Wailea.  Both galleries feature works by well-known rock artists, as well as music themed works in general.  I forget their names.

I'll keep you in mind for possible projects.

      Regards.

Your guitar art is awesome. I would be honored to include a link to your

creating one as I have done. It is found in the lower left corner of the
main page. www.playguitar.info
Good luck with your 'vision'.

Mr. Chase, very nice. I'm an art student at the University of Wyoming and
am really getting into guitar painting. Although the grades I get in
class sometimes suffer because the subject matter (guitars) I find it
worth it after looking at your work. Thanks for the inspiration

Whilst searching the internet for ideas i came across your work, it caught my attention immediately because of the individuality and evident time and passion put into each piece. I would like to use you as my artist for this exam, and study your work for it too. If you could send me any information about yourself and your work it would be greatly appreciated and very helpful.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely
Helen

Paul, I appreciate your flexibility and the beautiful

Hi Paul--

Red Strap has made it home!  I understand completely why it mesmerized you, and you had difficulty parting with it.  So you know, I'll NEVER part with it.

Once again, the work is positively breathtaking.  The "Taylor" print is amazing, and its priceless quality further derives from the two signatures on it.  But, Red Strap is the direct work of a master artist on canvas, and I am truly humbled by noting the
1/250.  I've never owned anything like that before, so in effect, what you've given me is a second treasure.

Your work is phenomenal.  You have a gift for capturing the reality and essence of an instrument.  I just keep staring at it, and marvel at the way you render the wood and the strings and the fret and the bridge and the inlays and the pick guard and the tuning heads, and so on...  And, in particular with Red Strap, the way that the "shadowed" guitar reveals itself as you approach the painting will be a source of endless fascination for me.  For lack of a better word, the work is "haunting" in the best possible sense.

I'll close by saying thanks for adding genuine aesthetic quality to my daily life.

Hope we can stay in touch.

Bill Henk,

Dear Mr. Chase,

I have always believed that the Guitar is a work of art musically and visually. This is probably an obvious question, but have you ever adorned a guitar with your art? I find it hard to believe that some major company hasn't commissioned you to do an artistic line of guitars. After all a guitar should look as good as it sounds. I am a player of thirty six years and I am designing my first electric. I am also a graphic artist, I cheat and use a computer, but I have created a design for my guitar just to give it that personal touch. Any way, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you do. I'm sure I will visit your site frequently to see the new stuff. Thanks So Much, Dwayne

Dear Paul,

What a wonderful drawing! Richard and I both love "Green Intensity" and

would be delighted to use it on the cover of Soundboard this year.    Mary Long  Soundboard Magazine

Dear Mr. Chase,
Your artwork is amazing! There is little out there wherein the guitar is the subject matter. Even a  non-player like myself, can appreciate the beauty and artistic appeal of the instrument, not only as the art, but as a medium for art as well.

When I happened across your website - in my search for unique and artistic

picks to feature on my necklace ideas - I was transfixed by the bold and

beautiful graphic images that flood it's pages. The guitar, as an art

subject was, for me, a dynamic image.  Noreen Ambrose

Hi Paul,

Thank you for thinking of us. I would very much like the prints for our
office.

All the best,

Wow, Paul, I love your work. I'd like to put something together something
for the New Morning folks at Hallmark. It usually takes a while so not
hearing any news means pretty much nothing in my biz.
